In something like this, almost everyone encounters a slump around the second week. Basically, they just stop writing for a while. The slump can be caused by many things. Getting overconfident about progress and thinking it's okay to stop for a while is one. Most commonly, they feel hopeless, like they'll never get it finished, and stop.
Eventually, some of them come to their senses, realize that they're just falling behind, and rush to finish before the month is over. Some make it, some don't, but a lot of people remain stuck in the slump. If they slump because they think they can't finish, and getting farther behind just strengthens that belief.
But, whatever you do, don't stop. You can't finish if you don't try. I've been over my slump already, coming out at around 15 thousand words. I could probably make it to the full 50 thousand, but I'm going to have to grind down on it and give it my all.
For those of you still on you're slump or starting yours, keep trying to apply yourself to the story. You probably started it so you could try and finish. You'll never reach 50 thousand if you don't try. It's possible to finish. I've seen people doing things like this before, going into the third week with ten thousand words. They still finished. If they can do it, so can you. |
